There are 300 refugees from the Fukushima nuclear plant area are living at Yamagata gym hall, which is 110km from the plant. I went there to find someone who used to work for Tokyo Electric Company to interview. But i found out those workers are at an extra evacuation center together... to hide from media?
There's an advertisement for working in Fukushima nuclear plant, 4938 dollars per day. I read the article that Gaddafi earns 2000 dollers per day, so in this theory working at Fukushima seems a more dangerous occupation. Who wants to take it?
It seems that TEPCO is the icon of evil in the universe now, the chairman showed up and had a press conference and they didn't admit their fault. They say they will investigate and then decide whether they apologize. They owns 21 apartments in 12 prefecture in Japan, but none of them is open for refugee as evacuation center yet so far. Other electric company opened their apartment for refugees already though. Sigh...
There are still people near the nuclear plant, who did not evacuate, because they love their land. And now refugee centers are full and there are no other schools to use now. A refugees I met today told me that she's going back to her house in 4 days because her grand son wants to. But obviously he can't go to school...
Life in evacuation center in Yamagata is rather good, but she says the evacuation center in Fukushima is not the same. People broke the windows to get air and were getting insane. I saw someone stabbed and got arrested there on TV today. This is the first criminal in the Fukushima evacuation center.
We don't have time anymore.

Chikayo,
thanks a lot for your disturbing reports from Japan. It feels like being in a first person view of the incidents and some of your facts can't be covered by the german media from Osaka or Tokio anyways. Keep your work going. We'll read you. Fred |
