An elevator with open compartments that never stands still - creaking through the floors since the 30s. Anyone who wants to use it must jump on the platform.
The obvious advantage of a paternoster lift is that it always goes up and down at the same time. What just went down goes straight up in the next moment. And by the way: Paternosters are common only in continental Europe and in Britain, completely unknown to the United States.
