Ulla Schmidt, Ex-Revolutionärin, Big Brother-Award Gewinnerin und Mutter der Praxisgebühr erfährt in einer gestern von WikiLeaks veröffentlichten US-Depesche (06BERLIN3156) aus dem Jahr 2006 eine späte Würdigung für ihren Kampf gegen das Preisdiktat der pharmazeutischen Industrie:
"Minister of Health Ulla Schmidt travels to New York and Washington October 29 - November 4 to meet with pharmaceutical companies, consumer groups, and attend a Commonwealth Fund symposium on health care policy. The trip is billed by the Ministry of Health as another opportunity for Schmidt to discuss German efforts at containing health care costs and gathering information from the U.S. and other sources on differing approaches to management of health care costs. Schmidt is not scheduled to meet with USG officials directly, but her participation in the Commonwealth Fund's event will allow her to engage with Secretary of Health Leavitt. This trip is the third to the U.S. in 2006. Schmidt arrives in New York on Sunday, October 29. In New York she will focus on pharmaceutical pricing and innovation. Schmidt has three meetings planned. The first, with Eon Labs, a subsidiary of Novartis specializing in generics, will focus generic drugs. The second event is with the new CEO of Pfizer, which the Ministry of Health has billed as an introductory meeting. The third meeting in New York is with AARP to discus Medicare part D. (NOTE. Originally Schmidt ws going to hold a round table discussion with th CEOs of major U.S. pharmaceutical companies, but according to MOH contacts, most of the CEOs wer unavailable. (...) At the Commonwealth Fund's symposium, Schmidt will speak about the German health care reform effort. (...) The bill as currently drafted does not deal directly with pharmaceutical pricing issues which have been of concern to U.S. manufacturers.
Während Schmidts Auftritt auf dem Commonwealth Fund Symposium auf deren Internetseite erwähnt wird, ist weder ihr Besuch der Stiftung, noch der Kontakt zu den US-Pharmafirmen an anderer Stelle dokumentiert, bzw. kommentiert worden. Warum Schmidt sich ausgericht im Land mit dem teuersten Gesundheitssystem der Welt, mit 50 Millionen Menschen ohne Krankenversicherung über die Eindämmung der Kosten im Gesundheitswesen und die Integration von Nichtversicherten informierte, bleibt ihr Geheimnis. Schmidts unverhohlene PR für die "vorbildliche US- Gesundheitsorganisation" Kaiser Permanente lässt sich indes auf das Wirken, der von ihr angestellten "Leihbeamtin" und Redenschreiberin Sophia Schlette zurückführen. Schlette, die hauptamtlich als gesundheitspolitische Expertin der neoliberalen Nebenregierung aus Gütersloh tätig war, wechselte anschließend als Senior International Adviser zu Kaiser Permanente. Deren Firmenphilosophie wurde bereits 1971 auf den Nixon White House Tapes dokumentiert:
"Edgar Kaiser is running his Permanente deal for profit. And the reason that he can … the reason he can do it … I had Edgar Kaiser come in … talk to me about this and I went into it in some depth. All the incentives are toward less medical care, because the less care they give them, the more money they make."
Die Praktiken dieser sogenannten Non-Profit Organisation beschäftigen sowohl US-Gerichte und -Filmemacher als auch engagierte deutsche Arztpraxen.
Über die Ergebnisse der informellen (?) Gespräche Schmidts mit Pfizer und dem von Novartis geschluckten Eon Labs Inc. ist nichts bekannt geworden. Wurde der Streit um den Erstattungspreis für das Pfizer Medikament Sortis erörtert, der in diesem Jahr mit einer Niederlage des Konzerns vor dem Bundessozialgericht endete ?
