Houthis use mosques to recruit new militants

The terrorist Houthi militia has transformed most of the mosques in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, from places of worship into places to mobilize and recruit new armed elements for the Iranian-backed group, said a report published by The Reference on Wednesday.
Yemeni news website Almashhad reported on Sunday, September 6 that the Houthi terrorist militia delivered a number of pre-prepared sermons from emergency vehicles on Friday, September 4 in Dhamar, Sanaa and a number of areas under the militia’s control.
The preachers spoke about the urgent need to recruit youth, claiming that whoever refrains from fighting amid the ranks of the militia is a mercenary.
Worshipers said that Houthi gunmen cordoned off and raided a mosque in a neighborhood in the center of Sanaa after its imam refused to deliver a sectarian sermon that the militia attempted to spread by force.

Hussein al-Ezzi clarifies Yemeni willingness to achieve peace and reconciliation

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in the National Salvation Government of Yemen, Hussein al-Ezzi, has on Tuesday confirmed Yemen’s readiness to achieve peace and reconciliation with all foreigners, whether they are individuals, organisations or states.

Houthi leader criticises UK Yemen envoy over Marib statement

A senior Houthi leader on Wednesday slammed a statement by the British ambassador to Yemen about clashes between government and Houthi forces in Marib province.

Ambassador Michael Aron tweeted that he and speaker of the Yemeni parliament Sultan Al-Barakani have agreed on the importance of implementing the Riyadh Agreement as soon as possible and to end the Houthi assault on Marib which has led to unjustified human losses and support the efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen.

Member of the Houthi supreme political council, Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, said the British ambassador is talking like he is the ruler of Yemen.

We will discipline all world tyrants and put them under our feet and liberate Yemen from all invaders, Al-Bukhaiti tweeted.

New UN report says rebels in Yemen recruited teenage girls

U.N.-backed experts have found evidence that rebels in Yemen recruited nearly three dozen teenage girls — some said to be survivors of sexual violence — as spies, medics, guards and members of an all-female force, according to a report released Wednesday.

The findings came in the third and latest report by the “group of eminent experts” commissioned by the Human Rights Council to investigate alleged rights violations by all sides in the war since September 2014. The devastating conflict in the Arab world’s poorest country has spawned what the United Nations calls the world’s greatest humanitarian crisis.

The group also received credible reports regarding Houthi recruitment of 34 girls (ages 13-17), between June 2015 and June 2020, for use as spies, recruiters of other children, guards, medics, and members of the Zainabiyat,” the report said, referring to the female force created by the rebels — an unusual phenomenon in an ultra-conservative society such as Yemen.

“Twelve of these girls allegedly survived sexual violence and/or a forced and early marriage directly linked to their recruitment,” the report said.

Let's Talk Supremacy in Yemen

Let's Talk Supremacy in #Yemen - #Houthi militia's latest 20% Racial Taxation and Supremacist Religiopolitical Ideology

In 2012, the Houthis published their manifesto wherein they declared that God has chosen descendants of Prophet Muhammed, Hashemis, to rule the people not on merit but on blood lineage; not for some time, but until the end of time.

The Houthis and their Zaidi scholars backed the argument for racial taxation with religious interpretations that grant descendants of the Prophet a higher human status over the rest of the society. However, we should refuse any engagement with the debate over the religiosity and validity of the source of the claimed Hashemi superiority as such engagement gives the concept of supremacy in and of itself some form of legitimacy to begin with.

Hashemi Supremacy in Yemen is “an historically based, religiously and culturally institutionalized system of exploitation, oppression, and inferior classification of non-Hashemis by descendants of the Hashemi tribe and the Ahl al Bayt clan (matrilineal descendants of the Prophet Muhammed), who claim genealogical superiority and divine entitlement for the purposes of gaining and maintaining political, economic, social, and doctrinal privileges, and defending a system of status and power”.

Blasting houses : Another form of Houthi terrorism in Yemen

Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen is carrying out different forms of terrorism like blowing up houses of its opponents.

Experiencing tough military pressure on the fighting fronts Houthi militia resort to detonating civilian homes as they inflict heavy human and material losses during the cashes with Yemeni army forces.

Three civilian homes were destroyed to rubble by the militia three days ago in the central province of Al-Bayda.

The militia justified their terrorist act that the home owner works in Saudi Arabia. They kicked out the families to the street, didn’t allow them to take anything before they blew it up.

As usual the militia was chanting “Death to America, death Israel…. although the demolished home owned by a Yemeni citizen.

Houthis attack Marib to pressurize government to abandon fuel import mechanism, report

The Houthi Group is attacking Marib province to pressurize the internationally recognised government to abandon a UN-backed mechanism for importing oil derivatives into Houthi-run Yemen.

The mechanism calls for depositing all tax and customs returns into a special account in the central bank of Yemen and using them to pay public servants. The Houthis also want the government to stop demanding them give back 40 billion Yemeni rials confiscated from the account.

The group handed its demands to the UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, before its latest assault on Marib but the envoy did not discuss them with the government, military sources told the Alsharq Al-Awsat Newspaper. Instead, Griffiths has continued to discuss his draft proposal to cease hostilities and take economic and humanitarian measures.

The Houthis believe the assault on oil-and gas-rich Marib will help them get at least one of their demands met and that is to allow them to import fuels and take the revenues, the sources said.

The Houthi demands also included that Marib power station should supply electric power to regions under their control, reopening Marib-Sanaa road and resumption of oil exports through the Ras Isa terminal and sharing the revenues with the government, according to the paper.

Houthis Upscale Exploitation of Illegal African Migrants

Houthi militias in Yemen held a funeral service for a number of illegal African migrants that have died on battlefronts alongside their ranks.

Houthis Kidnap, Forcibly Recruit Yemeni Minors

M. A., a 13-year-old Yemeni boy, was not aware that his Houthi-run neighborhood was no longer a safe place for a minor his age. On September 1, Houthi militiamen specialized in kidnapping and recruiting children had nabbed him off the streets of Yirim city, north of Ibb governorate.

According to family members of the minor who spoke to Asharq Al-Awsat under the conditions of anonymity, R.M.A had left his house in Yirim seeking public transportation to reach his father’s village but was abducted by gunmen before he even made it to his ride.

The Houthi gunmen had blindfolded the boy and threatened to kill him if he yells or screams at military and police checkpoints. He then was thrown onto a bus heading towards Sanaa.

A few kilometers into his journey, the kidnapped boy mustered the courage to yell for help when he felt the bus stop at a checkpoint where police under Houthi control where at the checkpoint. They answered the boy’s call for help and released him after hearing his story.

The culprits, however, were also freed after having successfully identified themselves as Houthi militants.

Anti-Houthi Protests Rise Across Yemeni Governorates

Yemenis from different walks of life in Houthi-run areas have banded together and organized rallies to protest the militias’ policies of looting, oppression and corruption.

Demonstrators protested the continued meddling in the decisions of the judiciary and accused Houthis of manipulating rulings issued against citizens to the favor of their Iran-backed agenda.

Well-informed sources based in Sanaa confirmed that anti-Houthi protests had been increasing and expanding across several areas.

In August, according to sources, Sanaa and the governorates of Ibb, Dhamar, Sanaa, Taiz, Hajjah, Al-Bayda, and Rayma witnessed a wave of widespread demonstrations triggered by deteriorating living conditions, spreading corruption, and rising crime levels.

Wikipedia: Southern Transitional Council

The Southern Transitional Council (STC; Arabic al-Majlis al-Intiqālī l-Janūbiyy) is a secessionist organization in Yemen. The 26 members of the STC include the governors of five southern governorates and two government ministers. It was formed by a faction of the Southern Movement, also known as al-Hirak al-Janoubi. The Southern Movement was established in 2007, during the term of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, and it has called for and worked toward the separation of southern Yemen from the rest of the nation (as it previously was until 1990).

Declared on 11 May 2017, the council is headed by the former Governor of Aden, Aidarus al-Zoubaidi, as president, with former-minister of state Hani Bin Breik as vice-president.[3] The formation of the council was authorized a week earlier by the Historic Aden Declaration announced at a rally protesting the dismissal of al-Zoubaidi from his post as governor.[4] The STC claims to rule most of the territory in southern Yemen.

Independence in Southern Yemen: An STC Perspective

For the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and many southern Yemeni people, the human costs of years of war are only the most recent chapter in a long and painful history that our people have endured. This painful history has confirmed the belief that we must establish an independent southern Yemen and return to the process of building a southern state with a democratic foundation, capable of serving the people of the South after decades of marginalization and oppression.

Since the beginning of the war and the destabilizing Houthi attacks in Yemen, the crux of our struggle against the Houthis in the South has been to achieve independence and reestablish the state of southern Yemen. Since 2013, this goal has brought scores of southern Yemenis into the streets of the South in protests. We were once a sovereign independent nation, and although we have tried unity, the past two decades have demonstrated that integration into a unified government means despotism, murder, corruption, and the unjust theft of the rights and resources of the people of southern Yemen. Though the international community has only recently started paying attention to the human suffering in Yemen, the South has faced these challenges for a long time.

The lack of action from the Hadi government after we signed the Riyadh agreement in November 2019 recalls what happened decades ago with the former president Ali Abdullah Saleh in the early 1990s after unification. Although we took one step forward in achieving our people’s dreams of independence and our right to sovereignty over our land through the Riyadh agreement, the Hadi government has avoided implementing key portions of the agreement.

In fact, deliberate neglect of the South has grown recently. The Hadi government has held control over the land and resources belonging to the South during this war while we have endured hunger, floods, and the rampant spread of disease—including a new struggle with coronavirus on top of our region’s ongoing malaria epidemic. Meanwhile, we have been unable to achieve our rights not only with regard to political representation and decision-making, but also regarding international aid, oil revenues, and access to waterways that would improve living conditions in our cities.

When the STC initially declared self-administration in April in an effort to take steps towards rectifying the matters that the Riyadh agreement did not successfully address, the Yemeni government adopted behavior reminiscent of the northern Saleh government’s actions after unification, namely threatening the people of the South with force. However, what is different today is that the STC, which is committed to achieving independence for the southern Yemeni people, now has the power to stand up to regime forces that have long oppressed the South while the Riyadh agreement continues to go unimplemented – by Abdulsalem Mused, Director of Foreign Relations at the Washington Office of the Southern Transitional Council in Yemen.

Yemeni MP says Saudi Arabia ignores Emirati crimes

A member of the Yemeni Parliament on Monday accused Saudi Arabia of ignoring the Emirati abuse and crimes costing Yemen billions of dollars amid the economic crisis experienced by the war-torn country.

"Among its crimes in Yemen is that the Emirates in 2017 seized Balhaf gas facility in [the southern governorate of] Shabwa, transformed it into military barracks and prevented its gas exports," MP for Islah Party, Shouqi al-Qadhi added on Facebook.

"This has deprived Yemen's economy from key revenues, at time the Yemeni rial suffers deterioration and economy suffers collapse.

Yemeni Socotra hosts protest rejecting any Israeli presence

Tens of Yemeni on Friday staged a protest in Socotra to reject any Israeli presence in the Yemeni southern island strategically located in the Indian Ocean.

The campaigners chose Qabhatin, in the western part of the archipelago, to rally and raise Yemen's flag, portraits of President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, and signs reading 'We strongly condemn any presence of Zionists or their supporters in Socotra', 'We call for return of local authority', and 'We reject militarization'.

The protesters fully blamed any party helping the Israeli presence in Socotra, a statement by the campaigners said, hinting at the United Arab Emirates.

Yemen’s Brotherhood ignites clashes in Abyan to block changes by Hadi

The Qatar-supported strategy also paves the way for the transfer of the conflict to southern Yemen.

The renewed military confrontations coincided with the return of Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi from the United States where he underwent medical treatment. Developments reinforced the hypothesis that the pro-Qatar current in the government wants to dissuade President Hadi from undertaking any changes in the structure of the “legitimacy camp” as such changes could undermine the influence of this powerful current.

Yemeni observers point out that the escalation of military confrontations in Abyan, while consultations are underway to form the new government in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, is an attempt to thwart the Riyadh Agreement and carry out the Muslim Brotherhood plan supported by Qatar aimed at imposing a de-facto policy in southern Yemen and tighten the screws on the temporary capital, Aden, by igniting confrontations on two axes, in Abyan and Tor Al-Baha in Taiz, while the Houthis attack Al-Dhalea.

The strategy effectively catches the areas of STC’s influence in a geopolitical pressure triangle and paves the way for the implementation of the project to transfer the conflict to southern Yemen.

UAE fully controls Socotra amid Yemeni govt ignorance

The Yemeni southern archipelago of Socotra has been fully controlled by the United Arab Emirates, a government official said Friday.

Saudi Arabia and UAE have brought Israel into Socotra as part of an abuse to detach the island from Yemen, Sheikh Isa Bin Yaquot added in remarks to Al-Jazeera. "They made demographic changes in Socotra, damaged its environment landmarks and erected their own camps."

Separatist militias hold Aden surrounded

STC forces impose cordon on Aden in preparation for battle against Islah Party

The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias have on Thursday imposed a military cordon on the port city of Aden and the western outskirts of Lahj province, in preparation for a battle against Islah Party militants at the entrances to the city.

Militia of the so-called Asifah, which is affiliated with the STC, have established a number of military points in the city’s streets, reaching Al-Hadid Point and Ras Omran area.

The militias reinforced their points with dozens of militants and a number of modern Emirati military vehicles, declaring a state of emergency in the city.

Saudi oil shipments to America plunge to 35-year low

Saudi Arabia drew the wrath of Republicans in Washington this spring by sending an armada of tankers to America to drown US oil makers with cheap crude. Now, the kingdom has reversed course, steering the fewest barrels here since the Reagan era.

The United States imported just 264,000 barrels per day of Saudi crude during August, according to estimates from ClipperData, a commodity research firm. That's down nearly 50% from 2019's average.

If confirmed by official government statistics, that would mark the lowest amount of Saudi oil exports to the United States since 1985.

"Saudi crude flows bound for the US have basically dried up," Matt Smith, director of commodity research at ClipperData, told CNN Business in an email.

The course-reversal by Saudi Arabia -- from intentionally flooding the United States with excess crude to holding back barrels -- underscores the kingdom's dramatic efforts to revive depressed energy markets during the pandemic.

Saudi Arabia jails eight over Khashoggi murder, fiancee decries trial

A Saudi Arabian court jailed eight people for between seven and 20 years on Monday for the 2018 murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, state media reported, four months after his family forgave his killers and enabled death sentences to be set aside.

The trial was criticised by a U.N. official and human rights campaigners who said the masterminds of the murder remained free.

State media reported that five people were handed 20-year prison sentences, one person was sentenced to 10 years and two people were handed seven-year sentences for the killing.

None of the defendants was named.

After the ruling, Khashoggi’s fiancee said the eight jailed were not the only ones responsible for the murder.

“The Saudi authorities are closing the case without the world knowing the truth of who is responsible for Jamal’s murder,” Hatice Cengiz wrote in a statement. “Who planned it, who ordered it, where is his body?”

In December, the court sentenced five people to death and three to jail, saying the killing was not premeditated but carried out on “the spur of the moment.

Some Western governments, as well as the CIA, had said previously they believed Prince Mohammed had ordered the killing.

But Agnes Callamard, the U.N. special rapporteur for extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions accused Saudi Arabia of making a “mockery of justice” by not punishing more senior officials who, she said, were behind the murder.

Saudi court issues final verdicts in Khashoggi killing

Callamard, the U.N. special rapporteur who investigated Khashoggi’s killing, told The Associated Press in a statement that the crown prince has remained “well protected against any kind of meaningful scrutiny in his country” and the high-level officials who organized the killing have walked free from the start.

“These verdicts cannot be allowed to whitewash what happened,” she said, calling on U.S. intelligence services to publicly release their assessments of the crown prince’s responsibility. “While formal justice in Saudi Arabia cannot be achieved, truth telling can.”

A small number of diplomats, including from Turkey, as well as members of Khashoggi’s family, were allowed to attend the initial trial. Independent media and the public were barred.

Yasin Aktay, a senior member of Turkey’s ruling party and a friend of Khashoggi, criticized the final court rulings, saying those who ordered the killing remain free while several questions concerning the journalist’s death remain unanswered.

He also said there were questions as to whether those convicted in the killing are imprisoned.

“According to what we have heard, those who were convicted are roaming freely and living in luxury,” he said. “The truth of the matter is this case should be tried in Turkey, not in Saudi Arabia.”

Saudi's Khashoggi verdict 'parody of justice':UN expert

UN investigator says Saudi prosecutor allowed high-level officials behind Khashoggi killing to walk free

"The Saudi Prosecutor performed one more act today in this parody of justice. But these verdicts carry no legal or moral legitimacy," tweeted Callamard, the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial executions.

"They came at the end of a process which was neither fair nor just, or transparent," she said.

"The five hitmen are sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, but the high-level officials who organized and embraced the execution of Jamal Khashoggi have walked free from the start -- barely touched by the investigation and trial," Callamard tweeted.

"As for the individual responsibility of the person on top of the State, the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, he has remained well protected against any kind of meaningful scrutiny in his country," said Callamard.

She said the verdicts could not be allowed to whitewash what happened and they should not any pressure on governments.

Callamard stressed that Monday’s decision should not relieve the pressure on governments to bring true criminals to light, and she cited especially the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.

Callamard said she welcomed the death penalty being commuted.

"Had such sentences been carried out, they would have amounted to yet more arbitrary killings by the State of Saudi Arabia, and permanent silencing of key witnesses to the execution," she said.

Trump accuses military leaders of exactly what his administration is doing — helping US weapons companies profit off of wars

President Trump on Monday accused military leadership of wanting to "fight wars" to help arms makers boost profits, but ignored his own record of doing just that.

The Trump administration has consistently sought to expand arms sales around the world, including to countries with well-documented records of bombing civilians like Saudi Arabia.

Trump's foreign policy, and prioritization of arms sales, has helped exacerbate conflicts like the devastating war in Yemen.

Arms sales have increased dramatically under Trump's watch, with Saudi Arabia as a top customer. Exports of major arms from the US grew by 23% in comparing the periods 2010–14 and 2015–19.

These are clearly acts of war on the part of the United States. This is abundantly clear that this is what's going on. The US withdraws from this JCPOA agreement two years ago, withdraws unilaterally, breaks this word on a deal that was being adhered to by all of the parties involved.

And now insists that it has the right to impose all kinds of economic sanctions on Iran basically with Iran having abided by the terms of the JCPOA deal. This is yet another instance of regime change attempt on the part of Washington. It's accelerating and it accentuates what Washington has been doing in Syria, what it did in Libya, what it's trying to do in Iraq, what it continues to try to do in Belarus continues to accelerate with what it's doing with these flyovers in these NATO countries, 30 NATO countries. It was clearly something aimed at Russia with the suggestion that even those two countries might eventually go to war.

This stuff is ridiculous. I'm tired of it. It's criminal and in a country where you have a $26 trillion national debt, where you have an overextended military, where we have a COVID-19 entered the economy, and with all the social unrest in the United States, it's about time that we started stop fooling around with other people's countries, on behalf of bankers and on behalf of Israel.

It is about time that we pulled away from these terrible things that we've been doing and start concentrating on rebuilding our economy and our political structures in the confidence of our own people at home and have fair deals and fair trade with all and stop this empire-building while we can still do it before there's a global tragedy – by Mark Dankof

Council of Europe issues press freedom alert after UK blacklists site over Yemen coverage

UK Ministry of Defence under fire for blacklisting Declassified UK over its criticism of Yemen war

Censorship concerns are mounting in Britain after the Council of Europe issued a level two press freedom alert over a UK Ministry of Defence decision to blacklist Declassified UK, a military and foreign policy news website.

Declassified UK discovered it was blacklisted by the MOD because of its coverage of the war in Yemen after it submitted on 25 August a request for comment on the arrest the day before of British-Yemeni soldier Ahmed al-Batati for his protest in London against UK arm sales to Saudi Arabia.

Remembering heroes: five-year anniversary of UAE’s 45 martyrs

On September 4 2015, 45 Emirati soldiers were killed serving in Yemen

Friday marked the fifth anniversary of the day when 45 Emirati soldiers were martyred as part of an operation in Yemen.

The UAE Armed Forces servicemen died after a rocket attack in Yemen during a Saudi-led operation to drive out Houthi rebels.

Despite the loss, the UAE remained committed to restoring peace and security in Yemen.

At the time, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, said: “The UAE has lost a group of its purest men."

Possible war crimes in Yemen fueled by arms flows from West, Iran: U.N.

Weapons provided by Western powers and Iran to the warring sides in Yemen are fuelling the six-year-old conflict, marked by deadly Saudi-led coalition air strikes and Houthi shelling, U.N. investigators said on Wednesday.

Canada is fuelling war in Yemen with arms sales, UN report says

Ardi Imseis, a professor of law at Queen’s University and a member of the panel, said at a news conference on the report that Canada was added to the list of named countries because of an increase in arms sales in 2019.

“We therefore reiterate our call for states to stop transferring arms to the parties to the conflict,” he said.

Canadian shipments of military goods to Saudi Arabia hit a record high in 2019, almost entirely owing to a $14-billion contract brokered by a federal Crown corporation to sell light armoured vehicles (LAVs) to the kingdom. Canada exported nearly $2.9-billion worth of military equipment to Saudi Arabia last year, nearly all of it LAVs made in London, Ont., by a subsidiary of U.S. defence contractor General Dynamics Corp.

Prof. Imseis urged the Canadian government to reconsider arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

Middle East Shocker: Israel May Sell Weapons To Arab Nations

Israel wants to sell weapons to the United Arab Emirates, according to Israeli media.

But the idea has split the Israeli government between those who see arms sales as a tool to solidify relations with a former adversary, and those who fear that this could damage Israel’s security.

“The Mossad, encouraged by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is pushing to sell the UAE advanced weapon systems and highly classified information, while the Defense Ministry adamantly objects to giving away some of Israel's more advanced warfare capabilities, for fear of classified information leaking to enemy states,” reports Israel’s Ynet news site.

For now, Netanyahu’s government denies that it is contemplating weapons sales to the UAE

Discover the Old City of Sanaa, Yemen

The Old City of Sanaa is one the oldest cities in the world. Meaning ‘fortified place’, it remains one of the greatest treasures of Arabia.

Defined by distinct rammed earth and burnt brick tower-houses, the walled city has been inhabited for over 2,500 years and is home to the ancient pre-Islamic fortress of Ghumdan, a 20-story palace believed to be the world’s first ever ‘skyscraper’.

As you step through the iconic ‘Yemen Gate’, the only one of the city’s seven historic gates left standing, you will feel as though you have taken a step back in time.

Like an elaborate work of art in an expansive open-air museum, more than 6,000 houses built before the eleventh century lie within the old city walls, tucked close together and connected by a comprehensive network of narrow streets and alleyways.

The city has remarkably retained its historical ambience and splendor over the centuries and remained unspoiled by modern architecture, maintaining a comfortable rhythm between its traditional architectural fabric and the requirements of modern life.

Charming in their simplicity and homogeneity, the various fired-clay buildings adorned with intricate geometric patterns and striking white detailing reverberate the city’s vast religious and cultural tradition influenced by its Arab, Islamic as well as Jewish heritage.

CBY pauses money exchange at private firms to stop Yemeni rial decline

The Yemeni rial kept on declining against foreign moneys in Aden and other areas under the official government control, where one US dollar is exchanged for 810 rials, recording the lowest rate since 2018.

In an attempt to halt the national currency depreciation, the Aden-based Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) on Wednesday instructed all exchanging firms to temporarily pause purchasing and selling foreign moneys, banking sources told Debriefer.

"Halting the speculations and limiting the big sales to the CBY would help boost foreign cash's availability at the bank, stabilize exchange market and control the Yemeni rial's free fall," the sources added.

Biden’s Promise To Restore The Iran Deal Would Be A Disaster In Waiting

Five years ago, the Obama administration made a gamble on a diplomatic experiment with Iran — a gamble that failed miserably. Unfortunately, the United States and its allies still live with the consequences of President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Since the deal, Iran has ramped up its nuclear ambitions and used the billions of dollars of sanctions relief it received to bankroll its terrorist proxies and fuel regional instability. Now, Joe Biden promises to repeat the same mistakes by re-entering the nuclear deal if he is elected.

Al Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia must stop now

Yemen talks will fail unless arms shipments to militia through Hodeida port are stopped

The Arab coalition has been exercising utmost restraint in the face of continuing terror attacks on the kingdom by Al Houthis to give the international efforts, aimed at ending the war, a chance. However, the Al Houthis seem to insist, most probably under instructions from their masters in Tehran, on prolonging the conflict that has ravaged the impoverished Arab country and killed thousands of people. The recent attacks on Saudi civilian areas is also a desperate attempt by the Al Houthis to stop the coalition’s vital logistical support to the Yemeni army, which has been making important advances recently, especially in the central provinces of Marib and Al Bayda.

Just two days ago, a displacement site full of women and children displaced from their homes, were targeted with an explosive drone launched by the Houthi terrorist militia.

The IDPs in the Al Qashal camp said they were awaken by huge explosion that rendered women and children in great terror and panic.

The blast was ”bomb-laden drone fired by the Houthis”, they told September Net.

The attack on the IDPs in the camp wasn’t the first of its kind .”Houthis always target us with Katyusha rockets, mortar shells and booby-trapped drones, “they added.

Bokhaiti confirms Houthi military advance towards Marib

Humanitarian calls for cessation of battles near Marib clearly indicate that Houthi forces have made advance and close in on the Yemeni northeastern city, Mohamed al-Bokhaiti tweeted on Sunday.
The group knows how the "deceived newcomers to Marib, particularly those living with their families in the city, are worried," the Houthi official added.
"We tell them: Don't worry. You're our brothers and relatives, and we won't harm you. You know our and Marib people's noble morals," he said, hinting at their alleged advance.
Previously, Yemeni activists have called for halt of violent battles in many fronts near Marib to avoid harm to populated areas and civilians, including tens of thousands of IDPs who fled war in other places in quest of new life opportunity.

Yemeni Army Hits Saudi Airport in Retaliatory Drone Attack

The Yemeni army said it has launched a massive drone attack against Abha International Airport in Southern Saudi Arabia.

General Yahya Saree, the spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces, said the army's drones on Sunday struck military positions and sensitive targets at Abha Airport with high precision.

According to Yemen's Al Masirah TV, the attacks were launched in response to the Saudi-led coalition's increased airstrikes against the Yemeni nation and the continued siege on the country, the army spokesman said.

The attack came one week after a similar drone attack on the same airport, which Riyadh claims was intercepted.

Two children have been killed and two others injured in a mortar attack by Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The bombardment took place in a residential area in the Haiys district of Hodeidah on Tuesday.

“One of the many mortars fired by the Houthi rebels fell over a house belonging to Majid Amer in the Al Maghal area killing his four-year-old son Abdullah Majid and injuring two of his daughters, Huda Majid, seven, and Jana Majid, five. Meanwhile another child, Mohammed Abdulrahman, age 10, who lives in the same neighborhood, was killed during the Houthi bombardment."

[Hadi] Yemeni gov't pauses Hodeida talks with UN until Gen Guha changed

The Yemeni UN-recognized government on Tuesday announced pausing of any next meetings with the UN Mission to Support the Hodeida Agreement (UNMHA) until its head, General Abhijit Guha who "abides by the Houthi group", is replaced.

The UNMHA is now working to achieve its interests only, a government negotiator at the UN-supervised Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC) said in remarks carried by Asharq Al-awsat.

The UNMHA "acts by itself but not within the agreed framework," Gen Khalid al-Kokabani added. Its members "have not observed our demands regarding the murder of Colonel Solaihi in an area the UN is responsible to secure.., as well as their failure to cooperate in relocating the mission's headquarters.

"Its presence inside Hodeida city makes the mission 100% subordinate to Houthi control.

"General Guha and aides don't think as much of helping the task succeed as of obeying and pleasing the Houthis to sustain their jobs and salaries. For the sake of their salaries, they have unfortunately lost the pact and Hodeida.

"We won't hold a meeting with this general before our demands are met," the government negotiator warned. "We've borne over our tolerance, sailing long distances to help meetings succeed, but no corridor has been opened, though the deal came mainly to open humanitarian corridors.

"Unimaginably awful violations persist – not only violations but attempts to occupy new lands – and the UNMHA reports what the Houthis want to say to the envoy.

"Gen Guha absolutely applies their [the Houthi] agenda, so the Yemeni foreign ministry called for his replacement."

On Sunday, the Yemeni official government accused the Houthis of restricting the movement of UNMHA, "whose work is unfeasible to continue under these conditions."

[Hadi] Yemeni Govt Links Hodeidah Cooperation to Guha’s Removal

The Yemeni internationally recognized government has officially suspended meetings with the UN Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), saying it will resume attending talks only when the head of the mission is changed.

Retired Lieutenant General Abhijit Guha is the chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC) and the head of UNMHA. He succeeded Lt. Gen Michael Anker Lollesgaard in 2019.

UNMHA is focused on working to achieve its personal interests, member of the government’s RCC team, Col. Khaled al-Kawkabani, told Asharq Al-Awsat.

“The UN mission in Hodeidah is working for itself and does not work within the agreed framework, and its members did not comply with what we requested regarding the killing of Colonel al-Sulayhi in an area supposedly secured by UNMHA,” al-Kawkabani said.

He also noted that UNMHA did not cooperate with the request to relocate the mission’s headquarters.

https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2494736/yemeni-govt-links-hodeidah-cooperation-guha%E2%80%99s-removal

My comment: Again the Hadi government tries to blackmail the UN, in case UN officials are not fully biased in it’s favor. – It seems this could be a part of a greater campaign, as the Hadi government seems to try to kill the 2018 Stockholm agreement which had prevented greater fighting at Hudayda:

Yemeni Speaker: Gov't under pressures to freeze Stockholm deal

Yemeni UN-recognized government is under pressures pushing it towards a decision to halt the UN-brokered Stockholm Agreement signed with the Houthis in December 2018, the Yemeni Parliament speaker tweeted on Tuesday.

There are strong pressures to freeze application of this deal, since the Houthis determinedly choose war and reject peace, Sultan al-Barakani added.

In many occasions, the official government said the pact had yielded no positive impacts, as it has not protected civilians from Houthi shelling or snipers that claimed more innocent lives than the pre-deal casualties.

The Agreement has proven to be a problem but not a solution, as it has provided the Houthis with the cover to keep on their military operations, the Yemeni FM and government spokesman said in different statements.

https://debriefer.net/en/news-19717.html

My comment: It seems that this government not is “under pressure” (from whom?) but itself pressures others.

[Hadi] Government: UN Hodeidah mission under mercy of Houthis

The internationally recognised government on Monday accused the Houthi Group of restricting the movement and freedom of the UN Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement in western Yemen.

The group is undermining the Hodeidah agreement through preventing the mission from doing its job and moving freely in Hodeidah city, and through refusing to remove landmines and to open humanitarian passages, foreign ministry said on Twitter.

The UN mission has been unable to investigate the assassination of a liaison officer from the government's team in the redeployment coordination committee, the ministry said.

The Houthis have refused to investigate the assassination and blew up the monitoring post where the officer was killed to prevent the mission from investigating, it said.

On the other hand, the ministry said that the Houthis breached the ceasefire in Hodeidah 7.378 times in July, killing 14 people and wounding 83 others, including 3 civilians.

They are using Hodeidah to launch attacks with remotely controlled boats and drones and to mobilise fighters for battles in Jawf and Marib provinces, it added.

From their side, the Houthis accused the pro-government joint forces of breaching the ceasefire more than 3.000 times in August.
